Safer Skin Care With Beauty Counter
Happy Thursday! Hurray for getting close to the end of the week! It has been a doozy over here, but we are making it through! I have a special treat for you guys today! Clare from the blog Fitting It All In has shared a guest post for us today! In addition to blogging Clare is also a Beauty Counter consultant. You can find her on her blog, Instagram, and her Facebook group where she is always providing such wonderful information on the company I have come to love, Beauty Counter! In addition to being a Beauty Counter consultant and blogger, Clare is also busy in her 3rd year of medical school! Something I greatly appreciate is Clare’s persistent in sharing articles that pertain to medical prevention and linking safer skin care with Beauty Counter to medical studies. I encourage you to check her out!
I started using Beauty Counter about 6 months ago and fell in love! Prior to Beauty Counter I was super basic and used a bar of soap and Neutrogena sensitive skin lotion. That was it. Full of chemicals and not doing my skin any favors. Now that I am 31, I wanted to find safer skin care products and a regime that was anti-aging, managed any breakouts, and made me feel pampered! Let me tell you, Beauty Counter did all of that for me. I thought it would make me break out as I wasn’t use to using creams and oils, but it did quite the opposite. My skin felt so smooth, vibrant, and younger! It was such a nice treat to have such a wonderful skincare regime to use every day. I have dry skin so I have used the following products and have seen great results (they are listed in the order I use them)!
- Nourishing Cream Cleanser
- Rejuvenating Radiance Line: Serum, Eye Cream, Day Cream, and Night Cream
- No. 3 Balancing Facial Mask (I use this about once a week)
My name is Clare and I’m a 30-year-old med student living in St. Louis. I made a big change in my mid-twenties so now instead of my original marketing career, I’m getting ready to apply for a medical residency! I’m thinking either pediatrics or child psychiatry – I’ll let you knowJ
I’m also graduate of the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, a yoga teacher, a blogger over at Fitting-It-All-In.com, and most recently a Beautycounter consultant. I’m pretty passionate about holistic health, and turning 30 meant some new skincare concerns (ugh!), so finding Beautycounter was perfect! I’m so happy Cassie asked me to share a little with you all.
Beautycounter is a company started by Gregg Renfrew, a mom living in California that was surprised to learn that the beauty products she was using on herself and her kids weren’t safe. The FDA has very minimal regulation and oversight of the personal care industry. There are over 80,000 chemicals on the market today and the majority have never been tested for health and safety! And what really says something is that the EU, with a more strict and proactive approach, has banned over 1,300 chemicals while the United States has only partially banned 30. Most people assume the government is carefully monitoring what’s allowed in our products, but that just simply isn’t the case.
Enter Gregg and Beautycounter, with the mission is to get safer products in the hands of everyone. The company has committed to health and safety standards far beyond what the government requires, and has created the Never ListÒ of 1500 questionable or harmful chemicals they will never use. Check out that list and compare it to some of the products in your cabinets. It’s scary!
I could go on and on about the amazing health and safety testing and advocacy this company does, but let’s get to the good stuff: the products!! Gregg is very committed to creating innovative products that actually work, which can’t be said for some of the more “natural” companies I’ve tried before. Beautycounter makes skincare, bath products, makeup, a kid’s line, and newly a men’s line. There are tons of new products being launched this year too, so it keeps getting better! Here are my favorites:
There are three major skincare lines, with a fourth specializing in acne control launching soon.
- The Nourishing line is the most wallet-friendly, basic line that uses a coconut oil base to remove impurities and moisturize normal-to-dry skin.
- The Rejuvenating line is for what I like to call “aging-gracefully.” It’s for all skin types but targets fine lines and wrinkles. I love the radiance serum brightening, toner pads for dark spots, eye cream for fine lines, and face wash in my shower!
- The Countermatch line is the most innovative so far, using Bio-mimic technology and plant-derived ingredients to provide hydration while improving dullness and skin texture. This is my every day lotion, and it is incredible!
QUICK & EASY MAKEUP:
Our award winning tinted moisturizer, Dew Skin, was my “gateway drug” to Beautycounter. It is light, not at all cakey, has SPF, and leaves me feeling just a little bit brighter. It has a bit of a cult following!
The Flawless in Five makeup routine is what I use every single day. It comes with everything you need to feel put together but not over done, and it truly takes less than five minutes. You get a very light foundation called Tint Skin, concealer, blush, eyebrow pencil, mascara, and lip gloss. Every single product is incredible! Check out my subtle before and after below.
I have added a few more to my collection for nights out, though, like one of our eye shadow palettes, a few lipsticks, and a contouring set that was offered over the holidays.
I don’t have kids of my own, but I have already gifted some of my new mom friends our baby line. I think this is where people really start learning about the health and safety of products – when they start slathering stuff all over their precious babes! We have great baby oil, bath wash, diaper cream, shampoo, conditioner, sunscreen, and more!
I know moms have really liked knowing their makeup is safe, too, because kids so often get into it or little girls want to play.
My all-time favorite products are:
I had never been a big face mask or face oil girl, but now I’m obsessed. There are three different lines of masks, oils, and mists depending on your focus: brightening (#1), plumping (#2), or balancing (#3). Especially in the winter, the oils are the only thing that really leave my skin dewy and bright. I sometimes use an oil as my only moisturizer, and other times just add a drop to my Countermatch lotion for a little extra oomph. I also try to do a mask a few times a week, which is such a lovely self-care ritual.
PHEW, that was a lot!! There is so much goodness to share, so I hope I didn’t overwhelm you. My newsletter provides a lot more information, so feel free to sign up for that here. (I host a lot of fun promos and giveaways there, too!) You can also get more info in my Facebook group or just by emailing me at firstname.lastname@example.org, if you’d like.
Cheers to safer skincare!
